Electric Bikes

Electric bikes have been around longer than you think. However, in the last few years the technology has really moved on and they are the fastest growing sector of the European cycle market. In some countries in Europe, eBikes represented 40% of all bikes sold last year.

The reason is, they are great fun and they make you feel like a superhero!

Riding an eBike, whether for commuting, shopping, leisure or action, means you are out and about getting fresh air, exercise and exhilaration. They make cycling a viable alternative to the car.

The electric assistance helps you up to 15mph and after that it’s all up to you. So, it irons out the hills and headwinds allowing you to go further for longer and not necessarily arriving at your destination hot, sweaty and gasping for breath.

All the bikes have variable levels of assistance so you can alter it to suit the terrain and how exerted (or not) you want to be.

As with regular bikes there are many different types, Mountain Bikes (eMTB), Urban Commuters, Traditional. They deliver the power through pedal sensors and either a motor in the hub of the wheel or between your feet powering the cranks.

Like with most things, you get what you pay for and the eBike market is very competitive. So all the bikes are a certain price for a certain reason. Cheap Far Eastern imports have cheap and nasty parts and dubious build quality. The reassuringly expensive European brands that we sell are built to last and to perform for thousands of miles. For example, Bosch wouldn’t put its name on something unless it was of the highest, most robust quality, would it?

Most importantly, however, the first time you ride one we guarantee it will put a smile on your face!

Why ride an ebike?

First and foremost because they're great fun!

Everyone loves to cycle, but not everyone is fit enough for longer rides, and some don't want to end up hot, sweaty and out of breath.

An ebike gives you all the thrills of bike riding without the downsides.

If your new to cycling an ebike opens up more options and will help kick start you’re cycling fitness too.

The legalities

Pedal assist bikes that help you zip along at about 15mph require no licence, no insurance and no tax. They are regarded in law exactly the same as a regular bicycle.

Helmets are recommended but are not a legal requirement.

As with regular bikes lights are required at night, but not during day light.

Hi-viz clothing isn't essential either.
